The death of Freedom of Expression

Today (12th November 2021) Freedom of expression died within the Nuclear community.

Control the Message, Control the Narrative

The Independent Facebook Group 'Christmas Island Nuclear Test Veterans, Family, Friends, and Supporters' was subjected to a hijack today by the BNTVA board of trustees. The activity log shows the coup starting at 9:32.

A BNTVA Trustee invited a previous BNTVA Chairman to be an admin and then 5 BNTVA Trustees were invited to be an admin of the group by this person.

The first action was to block a descendant who had asked questions. Then the settings were changed to posts needing to be approved by an admin.

The keyword alerts were edited, then a BNTVA trustee blocked LABRATS and started systematically removing all of our posts.

The BNTVA Secretary blocked the Commander of the National Association of Atomic Veterans in the USA from participating in the group. (So much for international relations!)

Veterans' posts have been deleted. Descendants blocked from the page. The previous admins were removed without consent.

For years, our veterans and their descendants have been censored, airbrushed from history, their voices strangled, silenced. This is an independent Facebook group, set up by the family of an Atomic Veteran that has been forcibly taken over without her consent.

I never thought that a Charity would also take on such activity, these are the actions of trustees of a Charity which states that they are 'The Charity for Atomic Veterans'.

Two different people (a veteran and descendant) have contacted us and described it as living in 'North Korea'.

Many are angry, upset that their voices are being silenced once again from within their own community.

We will continue to campaign for truth and justice, we will never give up. We will keep campaigning despite this attack from within our own community. What is really upsetting is these people are descendants of Nuclear Veterans, they are our community who are silencing the Veterans who were present at the tests.

All we seek is truth and justice. We will not be silenced.
