WELL DOCUMENTED SAFETY PROCEDURES!

The UK Government always states that there were well-documented safety procedures during the British Nuclear Tests and that any service personnel who were in potentially dangerous or hazardous areas were issued with protective clothing and film badges.

These images obtained by LABRATS prove that this is definitely not the case.

FIRST SERIES

The first series of images are taken from the Grapple 'Y' test in 1958 and show the service personnel loading hazardous flasks of radioactive samples bound for Aldermaston.

Image 1 - Sealing the flask - Note the protective clothing of the scientist

Image 2 - Clearly marked for Aldermaston

Image 3 - No dosimeter or protective clothing for the service personnel.

Image 4 - These 2 service personnel in shorts and sandals.

Image 5 - No gloves, respirators or any protection

SECOND SERIES

The second series is taken when the cloud sampling aircraft landed after flying through the cloud. They clearly show three service personnel in close proximity to the radioactive aircraft with no protective clothing at all. (We have circled the men to show their close proximity)

Decontamination of Cloud Sampling Aircraft

In these images, the scientists are in full protective clothing, yet the service personnel has no clothing and no dosimeters.

THIRD SERIES

Our third series is from Operation Buffalo, this Land-Rover is only half a mile from ground Zero. The dummy can clearly be seen in the foreground.

Inspecting Ground-Zero

Scientists awaiting decontamination.

Anyone can clearly see who the scientists are and who the army officers are. The small wire fence clearly stops any potential contamination. As Steve Purse told Sir Keir Starmer (Steve's father participated in the Minor Trials at Maralinga)

"The sand pays no attention to the wire fence, it covers everything, your clothes, your food, it gets everywhere"

To claim a war pension, you need to prove the exposure from your dosimeter, yet these personnel who were potentially exposed have no dosimeters.

So the question remains, why are the scientists fully protected, yet the servicemen are clearly not protected at all?

For nearly 70 years, the UK government has always denied any responsibility, claiming that rigorous safety procedures were adhered to at all times. These are just many of the photographs which are now emerging from various sources and are being sent to us to show the truth. The Veterans and their families are still suffering the effects of the testing program today.

These images show that the servicemen were expendable, they were not fully protected and the strict safety procedures (as claimed by the MoD) were not implemented. The Veterans have told their stories many times, they have fought the UK Government and they are now demanding formal recognition for their service. We have met with Sir Keir Starmer and John Healey MP (Shadow Defence Secretary) and the Labour party is in full support of our #lookmeintheeye campaign.

We would also like to thank the many MP's across all political parties who have pledged support for our campaign, the list continues to grow. We would also like to thank Susie Boniface and the Daily Mirror for their continued efforts over many, many years. If you have any photographic evidence, please contact us - info@labrats.international.

At the time of publishing this blog, we are still waiting for the UK Prime Minister to meet with us. We will continue to publish images and testimonies from those who were present until formal recognition is obtained. #lookmeintheeye
