Nuclear Ban Week - Vienna

As an ICAN partner, LABRATS has been working with other organisations preparing for the 1st Meeting of State Parties for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Vienna.

Events are being held by ICAN and other partner organisations between 18th and 23rd June 2022.

ICAN has put together a website containing all of the information regarding the events.

From ICAN:

Get ready for a week of high-level and civil-society events to tackle the urgent, existential threat of nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are a bigger threat than ever before.

The war in Ukraine shows how nuclear weapons do not create safety but is a tool for terror and blackmail. The world urgently needs a reality-based plan to get rid of nuclear weapons, a plan that involves governments, elected representatives, international organisations, civil society, and impacted communities.

As governments gather for the first Meeting of States Parties to the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) in Vienna, we’re bringing all parts of society together in Vienna and around the world to make our voices heard in a loud, unequivocal "no" to these weapons of mass destruction.

LABRATS will be participating in discussions and showcasing a new video produced by Brian Cowden (Crossroads 2020) at the event. The video will be shown at the event and on live streams across the world. The video tells the story of how far we have come from Ground Zero and the impacts of Nuclear testing across the world. Brian has taken archival footage, testimonies, and his own footage to put together an extremely powerful video that will show the world how the testing program has impacted the communities. The reach of this video will be global.

You can watch the five-minute trailer here:

The full 30-minute video will be released on the 17th of June across the world.

We are proud to be working with ICAN and over 600 partners in over 100 countries. International collaboration, worldwide reach, and awareness of the testing programs across the world are extremely important. We are educating, raising awareness, and fighting for recognition.

The #lookmeintheeye campaign continues to gather support across the UK Parliament as we continue to fight for recognition for the British Nuclear Test Veterans. We are extremely grateful to have the support of The Daily Mirror and Susie Boniface.

You can support us by subscribing to our quarterly magazine "ATOM" or by purchasing merchandise. If you are a nuclear veteran or family member, you can attend the All-Tests Reunion at Pontins, Sand-Bay, Weston-Super-Mare, UK from 19th-23rd September. We have a few free places left, thanks to a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund.

Your support is very much appreciated so that we can continue to provide our services, all of our Directors are volunteers and take no remuneration for their time.
