76th Squadron - Exposed (Part 2)

Updated: Jan 20, 2022

New documents obtained by LABRATS International from the National Archives (Air 20 / 10811) show the exposure of the aircrews of 76th Squadron and the risk and rigour of the nuclear testing program.

Yet the denial continues.

Continuing from part one:

A sampling crew may control the dose it receives by taking action as necessary to leave the scene of radiation as the integrating dosimeter indicates that they are approaching the maximum permitted dose. Unless they are faulty as in part one.

The engines will retain their gamma field for a prolonged period and the aircraft may not be flown until this field is reduced to acceptable proportions.

No regulations in force governing the transit of radioactive aircraft through international civil airports.

Conceal the fact that the engines may be 'hot' from the Nandi authorities. A fake certificate from the Health Physics Officer should be shown, stating that it constitutes no radiological hazards.

Provisional sampling schedules:

Notes for Officers:

The mission - to prevent damage to aircraft from blast effects and flying debris. No mention of the personnel.

Aircraft positions at H-10 minutes

All personnel are to undertake blood tests:

No risk or rigour, just flying through a nuclear detonation:

This document contains an unbelievable statement:

"In fact, it was subsequently found that this crew has exceeded their maximum level by quite a high margin due to the failure of one of their recording instruments, but as they were still within the reserve limits and had saved the day by obtaining excellent samples this was perhaps a blessing in disguise!"

Conclusion

This was an experiment, the aircraft contained faulty equipment, the men were not important, the scientific results were all that mattered.

These documents were investigated because Flt Lt Joe Pasquini told LABRATS that they needed to be uncovered. Joe provided us with many documents, leads, and campaigned until his passing in 2021. You can read his story in his book 'The Curse of the Cloud Flyer' on Amazon.
